Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer This project involves taking food around campus that has not been and will not be purchased by students, repackaging it in compostable containers, and bringing it to the Campus Harvest Food Pantry for students.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer This mission is focused on food equity as well as prevention of food waste and helping with the growing food insecurity problems that students are facing.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Being able to package up the food and then transport it to the food pantry. As well as weighing the food and taking temperatures to ensure food safety.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Students will be able to learn how sustainability is connected to more than just the environment but also equity. The students will be able to learn how food security and sustainability are connected and how easy it is to make progress towards food security and less waste and potentially incorporate this knowledge into their own lives.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Food will be packaged a few times a week. The times for this will be based on volunteers' availability as well as the kitchen staff. So currently there are no specific times, but we will work with students and their schedules.
