Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The early childhood years are an important time for brain development. Children are curious and are developing their capacity for lifelong success. STEAM learning is part of that learning journey. Individuals who choose this project will facility STEAM learning by facilitating projects with children ages 2 - 5 years of age.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The UWEC Children’s Nature Academy supports high-quality care and education for young children through developmentally appropriate, nature-inspired education.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Must be comfortable working with small children. Knowledge of child development. Organization. Dynamic communication.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Individuals will . . . 1. develop competencies in teaching. 2. learn about child development. 3. build a collection of STEAM activities.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Must be available a minimum of 1 day per week between the hours of 9:00 - 11:00 or 3:00 - 5:00 .

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer A shuttle is available that travels to and from campus to the Children's Nature Academy.
