Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer We invite you to join our team at MS Take Charge on our mission to host an event for the MS Community this coming Saturday, March 29th, 2025. We are looking for art students with the willingness and ability to teach and lead art activities at the event. Experience interacting with the community is preferred, but not required. (We can teach you!) Ideally there will be contact and meetings with the MS Take Charge team at least once a week in order to orient and coordinate these activities. The student(s) should also be available to attend the event from 11AM to 2PM at the Sonnentag Event Center.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission of MS-Take Charge is to empower individuals affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) through education, advocacy, and support. The organization aims to enhance the quality of life for those living with MS by providing resources, fostering community connections, and promoting awareness about the condition.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer This project requires dedication of time, creativity, initiative, and social skills to design and lead art therapy activities. Students should be able to demonstrate adaptability, patience, and a drive to connect with the community. Strong communication skills are essential for guiding these art activities. In preparation for this event, skills in organization, coordination, teamwork, and problem solving will prove meaningful in helping to create an inclusive environment at the event.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To provide students with hands-on service learning in event planning, marketing, and community outreach while highlighting the role of art, music, and movement in supporting individuals with MS. Through their involvement in the Walk & Roll event, students will develop key skills in communication, project management, and teamwork while making a meaningful impact in the Eau Claire community.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Preferably students must be available to meet with the team at least two hours a week (Monday through Friday by appointment) and correspond regularly weekly. We are flexible and accommodating to all sorts of schedules so long as there is communication.

Answer Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disorder usually manifesting itself in the early 20’s. Almost one million people in the United States have MS, making it one of the most common causes of neurological disability among young adults (20’s-40’s) in North America. The prevalence of MS in Wisconsin is medium to high and there is an estimated 20,000 people in Wisconsin impacted by Multiple Sclerosis. Join us in making a difference here in Eau Claire, Wisconsin!
