Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The project would be assisting us with marketing, office projects, as well as social media updates and ideas, particularly through Facebook and our website. We will need assistance with our Harvest Gala Event, which is a major fundraiser dinner and silent auction in November. The planning begins for this event in July, so September into October is busy to meet deadlines the major work on brochures, flyers, and media assistance, to get the word out to the public. Additional help throughout the semester will be needed.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin leads the fight to stop seizures and SUDEP, find a cure, and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy through efforts including education, advocacy, research to accelerate ideas into therapies. The Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin is a non profit organization serving the needs of people with epilepsy and their families through client services and communication. EFWW serves 22 counties in Western Wisconsin.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer The position requires good people skills, personal initiative, and assistance to staff as needed. Help is also needed with necessary fliers, brochures, etc., using MS Publisher, MS Word, Excel, etc. Students need to be willing to assist us with telephone communication or other office needs. They need to take direction and be able to navigate the internet, Facebook and our webpage. Students will also be responsible to research and file data for specific projects.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To learn about how a non profit works, what our mission is and what services we provide so we can create the public awareness for Epilepsy throughout the community. Students would learn what it takes to produce a successful fundraiser and help with Marketing a fundraiser. We also need help with marketing brochures and packets to get out throughout our 22 county service area.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Student needs to be available during the working hours of our office-8:30-5:00 Student needs their own transportation. We will work with your school schedule.
