Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer We invite you to join our team where you will play a vital role in organizing and promoting an event aimed at raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This collaboration can serve as a valuable reference for you in the future. We are organizing the MS “Walk & Roll” Celebration Event in Eau Claire to raise awareness and create interactive music and drum circle experience for the MS community and loved ones. Students are provided with an opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities developed through their undergraduate education in a professional setting at the MS “Walk & Roll“ Celebration March 29, 2025 at The Sonnentag Event Center. We are seeking help in logistics, creating an interactive therapeutics Art, Music, Education and Movement event. Perseverance and courage will be essential for creating a successful experience for all participants.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission of MS-Take Charge is to empower individuals affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) through education, advocacy, and support. The organization aims to enhance the quality of life for those living with MS by providing resources, fostering community connections, and promoting awareness about the condition.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Students facilitating music therapy at the MS “Walk & Roll” Celebration event should encompass strong musical abilities, whether through playing instruments, singing, or guiding rhythmic activities. Good communication skills are essential for engaging participants and providing clear instructions. Empathy and patience will help create a supportive and inclusive environment, while adaptability ensures activities are accessible to all. Teamwork and organizational skills will be important for coordinating with other volunteers and managing the event flow. These skills will allow students to create a meaningful and enjoyable musical experience for participants.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To engage students in hands-on service learning by incorporating music therapy into the MS “Walk & Roll” Celebration event, enhancing the experience for individuals with MS to discover a healing rhythm through live music, rhythmic activities, and guided exercises, students will help foster movement, cognitive engagement, and emotional well-being. This opportunity will allow students to develop skills in communication, teamwork, and event coordination while making a meaningful impact in the Eau Claire community.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Flexible scheduling will work around a student's schedule. Student must be available for at least two hours for two weeks leading up to the event on March 29th.

Answer Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disorder usually manifesting itself in the early 20’s. Almost one million people in the United States have MS, making it one of the most common causes of neurological disability among young adults (20’s-40’s) in North America. The prevalence of MS in Wisconsin is medium to high and there is an estimated 20,000 people in Wisconsin impacted by Multiple Sclerosis.
