Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer UW- Eau Claire Continuing Education is hosting its 36th annual Academy of Lifelong Learners. This all-day program provides a fun day of educational workshops, community resources, and social interaction for adults ages 55-100. This event is expected to have 400+ attendees and will be held in the UWEC Davies Center on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The success of the event depends on volunteers; we are not able to host an event of this size without the generous contributions of volunteers. Example volunteer tasks include: - Pre-Event clerical tasks (dates TBD/flexible—late May. 8:00 am -4:00 pm, M-F): stuffing participant folders, loading bins, counting t-shirts and lanyards, making reminder phone calls to workshop presenters, and/or other duties as needed. - Event set up (June 2): hanging signs, setting up place cards, greeting sponsors & showing them to their tables, and other tasks at the discretion of the shift leader(s). - Day of event (June 3): directing cars in campus parking lots and pointing people to the shuttle pick-up areas, hallway monitor/wayfinder (direct participants to restrooms, elevators, and workshop locations), workshop moderator, event clean up, and more. - Once selected for this project, you will work with us to match you with tasks that fit your skills and meet the openings we need to fill. You will be working with the program attendees, adult volunteers, workshop presenters, Continuing Education staff, and/or event sponsors.
