Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Assist in retrieving food donations from Dollar General (Thursday afternoons), weighing, sorting, recording and shelving food. May require delivering excess food to neighboring NTC campus or We Share Food Pantry. Reporting visit statistics to Feed My People Food Bank. Assist in delivery receipt and stocking. The community need to be addressed is: To gain an appreciation of food insecurity among campus students; to assess shortcoming in the current offerings, both within our own pantry and from the food bank.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission of UWECBC Foundation: To enhance student and community educational opportunities through the direct support of scholarships and campus initiatives at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire -- Barron County.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Compassion, confidentiality, interpersonal communication, accurate record keeping. Ability to record and tabulate in Excel is helpful. Driver's license and ability to work independently. Physical ability to receive, lift, and put away food donations.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To gain an appreciation of food insecurity among campus students; to assess shortcoming in the current offerings, both within our own pantry and from the food bank.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer STUDENT MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK AT THE RICE LAKE CAMPUS! Availability Thursdays 1PM until work is completed (usually 1-2 hrs) is required.
