Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer This project aims to address the lack of community and engagement among Economics majors and minors by fostering a more connected and informed student environment. The initiative will focus on creating a stronger sense of belonging within the department, increasing interest in the Economics major and minor, and informing students of academic and professional opportunities available to them.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Establish a structured series of networking events, including weekly speaker sessions where professionals from various fields related to Economics are invited to share insights about their careers. These events will serve as both educational and networking opportunities, helping students visualize potential career paths and build meaningful connections beyond the classroom.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer A dedicated student liaison will be appointed to facilitate this initiative. This individual will serve as a bridge between students and professionals, working closely with the board to develop and maintain a consistent schedule of guest speakers. The liaison will also be responsible for outreach, coordination, and ensuring student interests are represented in event planning.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Through this project, we will explore the underlying reasons for the current disconnect among Economics students—whether it be a lack of awareness, insufficient networking opportunities, or minimal exposure to real-world applications of the discipline. By leveraging organizational and communication skills, we aim to suggest and implement more effective ways of meeting these needs, ultimately cultivating a vibrant, supportive, and career-oriented Economics community.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Student must be available for the weekly meetings. Student must also be available and willing to communicate in a timely manner with potential guests and students wanting to learn more about the Org.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Additional responsibilities come upon the student's creative freedom to decide what is necessary for the organization's growth.
