Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The YMCA Sports Center will be hosting a volleyball tournament this Saturday April 19 and we are looking for individuals who would volunteer their time to score keep for the tournament. Hours would be 12-7pm with additional hours to help score keep basketball games for our league within the next couple of weeks. Days are Thursdays from 8pm-10pm.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Y is dedicated to giving people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Some knowledge of volleyball and basketball - Ability to follow the score of a volleyball and basketball game.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Learn how every role in YMCA sports program/league is important in a community setting. Learn about the different programs the Y provides to youth and families.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Saturday April 19 from 12-7pm volleyball scorekeeping. Basketball Scorekeeping- Thursdays 6-10pm. Schedule is flexible depending on the hours of student needs and hours available.
