Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Office Receptionists will answer incoming calls in a welcoming and respectful manner, advise patients of services provided by the clinic, assist with scheduling appointments and reminders, retrieve and respond to voice mail messages, pull and/or file medical charts, and other administrative/clerical duties as needed. The office receptionist will be the Clinic's first impression to the public in need of basic health care.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The Free Clinic serves as the only safety-new clinic in our community to provide basic health care and advocacy for the people of the Chippewa Valley who have no reasonable health care alternative. Our clinic is staffed by volunteer medical and administrative personnel and we provide primary care services and chronic disease management to approximately 200 patients a month

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Outgoing and friendly personality, good communicator, problem solving skills, basic clerical and computer skills, ability to prioritize, and multitask, strong phone skills, able to conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner, and ability to ensure patient confidentiality is required.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To gain administrative experience in a clinical setting and, at the same time, develop a greater understanding of the poverty and affordable medical care needs within our community. To provide a comfortable atmosphere for those in need of medical care. To be a source of compassion and encouragement to those in our community who are struggling.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer 2nd & 4th Thursday mornings of each month (and the occasional 5th Thursday such as March 29, 2018) from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
