Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer This project will build on another service learning project that was started in 2014. We would like to finish and finalize designs for 36 new tee-pad hole signs for the Tower Ridge disc golf course. A project was started in 2014, but was not finalized. We would like to take the work that was done then and expand upon it, get new yardage numbers and get the signs in a format that can be printed up on metal signage to be installed in the park.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To enrich the quality of life for current and future generations by providing a parks & forest system that will promote recreational opportunities, wildlife, and watershed protection while sustainably managing the county forest for optimum production of forest products.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer General GIS skills, GPS, computer programing that can utilize the making of signage to be made for the park. Some graphic design.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The student will learn the benefits of working with the public on this project. Utilization of a budget and execution of a project from start to finish. To help create a long standing legacy in one of your local recreation areas that will be helpful to people on the course for years to come.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer The student must be able to come to my office to look at the existing files that I have from when the project was started in 2014. Then they will need to spend some time at the disc golf course with one of the disc golf club members to verify yardages and tee-pad locations. Once all of that work is done, the rest will be done on a computer and we can have email and phone conversations regarding the project and progress.

Additional information (not required).

Answer This is potentially a project that could be worked on in tandem with 2 people.
