Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Social and Emotional resiliency is one of the most important factors for school success however, child care programs often lack the time and / or financial resources to provide children with an abundance of 1-on-1 time and attention. The service-learning project will allow UWEC students to have 1-on-1 time with children at the Nature Academy to support children's social and emotional development.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To provide quality child care.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Knowledge of child development. Basic coursework in Psychology or a related major. Ability to work with young children. Willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Students will develop skills and resources for supporting young children's social and emotional development.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer A minimum of 6 hours per week.

Answer This service learning opportunity is a part of the social / emotional internship, offered by the Children's Nature Academy. Before applying students should contact the Nature Academy for further information. The UWEC Children's Nature Academy is located at the Priory, 3.5 miles from campus. A shuttle is available during the week to transport UWEC students to and from campus.
