Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer I am looking to have a creative and talented student work on creation of some trails maps for the LL Phillips park in Seymour. This park has a fairly simple trail system that is used for hiking and snowshoeing in the winter. I would like to get signage created for posting at the parking lot as well as on our county parks website. Signage will be useful in helping individuals using the trails to know where they are going, how long the trail is, and how to get back.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To enrich the quality of life for current and future generations by providing a parks & forest system that will promote recreational opportunities, wildlife, and watershed protection while sustainably managing the county forest for optimum production of forest products.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer GIS, GPS, map making

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The student will learn how a public works project can be completed on time and on a strict budget. Will also learn the benefit of helping the public enjoy areas that are meant to be enjoyed.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer The student must have reliable transportation to travel to the park site to collect data. After data collection in the field is done, the rest can be done from a computer.
