Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The members of the LE Phillips Senior Center are in need of some tutoring on the use of a cellphone, iPad or laptop, as they did not grow up with all the technological devices most individuals use now on a daily basis. Students will teach the basic features of their devices in a setting that is 1-on-1 and give them the opportunity to get their questions answered.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The LE Phillips Senior Center provides a place for Seniors aged 50 and better to maintain independence, receive services and develop skills which enhance the emotional, physical and social quality of their lives.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Basic knowledge of cellphones, computers and patience to deal with Seniors that may ask the same question more than once.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Teach Seniors to use the different features on their iPad, cellphone or laptop. Students will gain an understanding of the excitement and challenges of becoming older.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Prefer a 2 hour block of time once a week. Schedule is based on the student's availability and amount of hours needed (15 or 30 hours) The LE Phillips Senior Center is open Mon/Wed/Fri 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Tues/Thurs 8 a.m.-7p.m. and Sat 8 am-Noon.
