Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer A Youth/Teen Development Supervisor interacts by listening, playing together, helping to solve problems they may be experiencing, and developing a healthy bonding relationship. Opportunities to play Foosball, pool, games, crafts, help with homework as needed, play sports, go on outings, read stories, puzzles, Play basketball at the gym or park, play football. We have a Food Program where a student can do interactive cooking with the kid's. Everyone participates in eating a family style meal!


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To offer children a safe, supervised, and nurturing environment to interact with other children, their parents and other adults. As a faith-based organization we have a love for and dedication to each child regardless of their race, religion or socioeconomic background.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Must have a genuine caring attitude and like kid's and some of their quirks. Good listener, ability to communicate, patient, kind hearted and friendly are important assets in working with our kid's. Some have tough situations in which they live and have no control over. Experience working with at risk youth is preferable but not required. Our children who attend are 5-17 years old. An outgoing personality is helpful in interacting with each child.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Interacting with boys and girls by teaching them about social skills, appropriate ways for problem solving with other kid's and volunteers. Students using acquired listening skills will help be in sync with each child's interest. Connections with understanding kids who the student interacts with are important objectives.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Hours of Operation are: Monday 4:30-6:60pm, Tuesday 4:30-6:30pm, Wednesday 4:30-6:30pm, Thursday 4:30-6:30pm. We require no more than 2 days a week. If you choose more days that would be an option. We appreciate punctuality and letting us know a day in advance your unavailable to volunteer, this allows coverage to replace you that day. Kiddos really look forward to seeing ya'll!

Answer If you have a car this would be great! Any interest in transporting for outing is a plus. Outings are free to all volunteers. Some perks to volunteering.
