Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Bluebird Experience is able to contribute to Nestwatch.org by collecting data from the area bluebird trails and accurately sharing data by entering it into the website. Two Information Systems Coordinators who are needed are able to transfer data from area bluebird trail activity statistic collection to the Nestwatch.org website accurately and efficiently. By including area data and research to the Nestwatch.org website, we are able to better accommodate bluebird habitats with the necessary components to continuously attract bluebirds.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission of the Bluebird Experience is to create, motivate and inspire people on how to become a citizen scientist when they connect with nature and use technology effectively. Bluebird Experience fosters learning and academic excellence by working with scientists, educators and nature enthusiasts to restore songbirds and habitat, to create a sustainable and academically enriching environment for our community.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Knowledge for website navigation, maintenance and data entry, self motivated, creative writing, time management skills, verbal and written communication skills, ability to work individually and as a part of a team, organizational skills, detail oriented, data collection and entry accuracy.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Bluebird Experience is in need of a highly motivated student with passion and experience for songbird data collection and analysis in regards to reporting statistics from bluebird trail monitoring to the Nestwatch.org website. Responsibilities include building and maintaining our content distribution network by way of social media channels, as well as creating content for these social media sites. There will also be opportunities for social media campaigns and this student would be responsible for coordinating and distributing this information.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer This is a very flexible position, due to the nature of the majority of the hours being fulfilled via "online time". There will be some events students should attend for content creation and review.
