Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community to be addressed.
Answer We are hoping to find two photography students to be a major part of our major fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation called "Stroll in the Park for Epilepsy-2018" on Saturday, May 12th, at Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls. There will be service learning hours given that will include preparation time at our office to view what pictures have been taken in the past, as well as learning about the attendees and families who come to the Stroll to support our mission. This event is a 1.5 Stroll around the animal cages and the park ,along with games, face painting, raffles, and a large picnic for all.We had 700 Strollers last year and this event has grown to be a huge Stroll in the past 25 years The attendees form teams, and raise pledges and donations, for all ages, from babies to grandmas ,all to support all who struggle with epilepsy. We have great media coverage from Weau with Judy Clark , Donuts from I Heart Radio,Trax a, from EC Express, Clowns ,the Chicken and the Star from Hardees, and The UWEC Football and Womens Basketball teams and coaches. It is a fun and exciting day!

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?
Answer The Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin's is dedicated to improve life opportunities for people living with epilepsy and serves over 14,000 individuals and their families affected by epilepsy in our 22 county service area. Our mission is to lead the fight to stop seizures and SUDEP ,find a cure, and overcome the challenges created by Epilepsy through efforts including ,education ,advocacy, and research to accelerate ideas into therapies.

3.

What skills are required for this project?
Answer " We are looking for photographers who are skilled in taking pictures with the cameras that will catch the important moments during this event to capture precious memories from year to year.If we are able to have two photographers in different areas as the park is large and there are lots of people everywhere! The main event is usually from 8:30 until 12 or 12:30 but setting up before the registration at 9:30 is important. There will be a lot going on and it has a feeling of a uplifting ""carnival fair"" rather than the usual fundraiser. We always hope for sunshine but we never know so knowing how to get the best picture in any weather is a good idea. You also need to enjoy being with groups of people and enjoy interacting with them to get the best shot. We will need a CD with all the pictures after the event that we will download. We would like to meet with you prior to the event at 1812 Brackett avenue to help with the park geographic layout, and route. We would welcome you to enjoy a great picnic!."

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?
Answer The objectives are to learn how important this event is to everyone who is there. Whether they have seizures or are present to support someone with epilepsy or volunteer or help with setup, food, registration etc. This is also a event to learn about what services and advocacy we provide. This will be a great event with community service content for any future resumes also.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?
Answer We hope that we can connect with you during work hours , preferably Monday -Thursday between the times 8:30-5:00 at our office and I will work around your school classes .I am aware finals are the week after so if we can can get the CD the following week before to leave Eau Claire that would be the best time.Again the event on that day is 8:30-12:00-12:30.
