Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The student will take part as a singer, spoken word, or rapper in a community Gospel and Hip Hop Choir. The CollECtive Choir uses exuberant music to proclaim the praise of Jesus Christ in the public arena. The Choir builds bridges of reconciliation between multiple rifts in our city: economic, social, racial, familial, generational and denominational.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Mission: "CollECtively proclaim Jesus through exuberant praise" Vision: "We are a diverse Gospel and hip hop choir displaying oneness in Christ. We invite all people to experience the life-changing love of Jesus."


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Individuals should be comfortable mingling with people who are different than themselves. While singing experience is a plus, it isn't a requirement.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To learn how community can be established in diversity, and the importance of community art and inter-organizational collaboration to ennoble and unify people.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Rehearsals are Monday nights from 6-7:30. Performances and events average 2-3 per month. Consistency is encouraged, but members miss rehearsals and events occasionally. The organization meets year round, but students are only required to the extent of their hours.
