Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Individual will be in charge of helping organize the Eau Claire Marathon warehouse. The weekend Items will include: merchandise, course cones, signs, flags, etc. Some heavier lifting may be involved. Also schedule deliveries. The community need addressed in this activity is creating a community based event that showcases the university and Eau Claire in a positive and healthy way.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The Eau Claire Marathon's mission is to encourage a journey that leads the participants to live a healthy lifestyle, that endorses the fact that dedication and discipline yield results, that demonstrates that you don't have to win the race to have a personal victory, and a journey that should remind everyone of the power of encouragement.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Organizational skills and some lifting are necessary.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The students will have the opportunity to see a fundamental organizational need for a large Eau Claire event, as well as, experience other aspects of the race i.e. the preparation leading up to the race and post race activities. These students will interact with a variety of community members in this role.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Thursday 1PM - 4PM and Friday 1PM - 4PM (2 volunteers for each day) Sun, May 5th 2PM - 6PM (2-3 volunteers) Additional time before the event will be used to go over the responsibilities. All Eau Claire Marathon service learning activities can count towards the hours requirement.

Answer The ability to keep track of race equipment is an integral part of the race weekend responsibility.
