Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community to be addressed.
Answer "Students will assist in maintaining the shelter and transitional housing facilities by completing the following tasks: Cleaning, Painting, grounds work, ensuring that all transitional housing apartments are stocked and ready for new clients, keeping inventory of household items available in storage, arranging pickup of donations from community members, working with the community relations intern to identify needs of the transitional housing program and the shelter, organizing storage closets, communicating with staff if there are any concerns or needs. "


What is the mission of the agency or organization?
Answer Bolton Refuge House Inc. creates safe space through programs and services for all persons impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault, and advocates for social change.


What skills are required for this project?
Answer "-Organization -attention to detail -willingness to learn about the dynamics of interpersonal and family violence issues -desire to help individuals and families in crisis -interest in learning more about how non-profit organizations operate


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?
Answer Students who volunteer their time will gain an in depth understanding of the dynamics associated with interpersonal and family violence and how these issues effect their community. Students will also gain experience in working independently, managing resources, working within teams, non-profit work, community relations, and facility management.


What are the availability requirements for the student?
Answer Students who are available for 2 hour blocks once per week would be able to participate in this project.
