Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The free clinic offers free medical care to communities members through volunteerism. We need a public relations or marketing professional to join us in sharing our message on social media, and other media outlets throughout our community.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission of the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic is to provide quality health care and advocacy for individuals of the Chippewa Valley who have no reasonable health care alternative.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer • Generate general news items on an ongoing basis • Serve on the community public relations committee • Help with newsletters and mailings for Chippewa Valley Free Clinic • In coordination with staff and communications committee, prepare newsletters and annual report content • Ensure communications from CVFC are prepared in a professional and timely manner • Work with Executive Director to send press releases, power points, and articles as needed to promote CVFC • Upon request, edit letters or other documents written by staff • Facilitates CVFC website and Facebook updates and enhancements (i.e. photos, events, donation requests) • Regular daily/weekly posts and tweets posted to all applicable social media outlets • Assist in developing and coordinating the marketing calendar with online activity • Assist in developing and updating website graphics and content • Create promotional materials for special events • Complete administrative tasks essential to the clinic

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The purpose of the Public Relations Assistant is to help promote the public reputation and image of the organization. Ideal candidates will possess excellent writing and presentation skills, communication skills, as well as creativity and high motivation levels. Given the diverse range of tasks and fluctuating schedules, all volunteers are expected to have good team work skills. This job description serves as a guide on job duties and must remain flexible to respond to the needs of the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Commit to 1-2 hours weekly for PR/Marketing needs.

Additional information (not required).

Answer The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic annual event (Raise Spirit, Give Hope) is in April. This event has over 200 attendees and many donated items that come together to raise money for the clinic. Experience gained would consist of but not limited to: work with committee members in planning, and reaching out to community businesses to assist in raise funds, promote funders, and plan event. The PR intern for this event will be highly involved in all phases of this event.
