Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Catholic Charities Eau Claire office houses Catholic Charities' Adoption services, Wisconsin Adoption & Permanency Support, St Lawrence Community Services, and the offices for Sojourner House Emergency Homeless Shelter. The Front Desk Volunteer will be greeting Catholic Charities' clients as they enter the door, help them find resources available to them in the community, and help direct them to the appropriate office staff. The Front Desk Volunteer will also be answering the front desk phone and directing the called to the appropriate office staff, as well as helping with small projects around the office. The Catholic Charities Eau Claire office is located at 318 Fulton St. Eau Claire, WI 54703

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Our Vision As Catholic Charities, we labor in the streets inviting and serving those who have been left out to know and experience the tremendous and abundant love of God through Jesus Christ. Called by our Diocesan Bishop, we commit ourselves to break down walls of division that keep sisters and brothers separated from one another, excluded, or rendered disposable by our society. With joy, through prayer and action, we resolve to build bridges of hope, mercy and justice toward the creation of a culture of communal care responsive to the cries of those who are poor.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer The Front Desk Volunteer should have the following skills: -A passion for helping people. -Basic customer service skills. -Able to operate a phone system (training available). -Ability to multitask. -Decent social skills.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer As the Front Desk Volunteer you will: -Learn how to work in a basic office setting. -Learn important phone skills. -Learn how to work with a variety of people with a variety of needs while maintaining professionalism. -Learn how to find community resources. -Improve on professional communication skills.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer There are two daily shifts available for this position from Monday -Thursday. The morning shift: 9:00am-12:00pm The afternoon shift: 1:00pm-4:00pm

Answer Applicants must fill out a background check and have a quick interview with the office staff before beginning this position. This can be done on the first day you are to volunteer.
