Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Do you want to make a difference? Do you want to make a difference? Do you enjoy Softball and smiling faces? Can you spare 4 hours a week? If the answer is YES to any of these questions... WE NEED YOU!! Our coaches value help to teach and encourage our adult athletes. There are over 45 athletes that participate in the softball team programs. The community need to be met is to keep our athletes physically fit, but gives them an opportunity to gain self- confidence, learn perseverance, feel a sense of achievement, and experience friendship which in turn embraces every aspect of their lives.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer We know from experience that participation in Special Olympics not only keeps our athletes physically fit, but gives them an opportunity to gain self-confidence, learn perseverance, feel a sense of achievement, and experience friendship which in turn embraces every aspect of their lives.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer To provide guidance, patience, and a positive atmosphere for athletes to learn and grow in their skill. Be prepared to receive high fives in appreciation to helping our athletes learn to reach their personal goals. Consistency and familiar trusting faces are very important to our SO athletes. Please check your availability and COME JOIN US!!

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Knowledge of Softball skills, positive attitude and encouragement. Practices consist of Teaching skills, Team building, and offering constructive coaching.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Our Softball practices in Eau Claire begin around May 18, 2020 and continue until State Tournament on August 1, 2020. Practice location and times are pending school grounds approval, but typically are at UWEC Bollinger Fields in May and North High School from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Chippewa Adults were unable to have a softball team last year without a coach. Chippewa typically has practices on Saturdays. Chippewa Adults want a team to represent their agency... Are you able to coach a great group of Chippewa athletes??

Answer If interest in volunteering with our athletes and agency, a Class A volunteer application will be registered with Special Olympics Wisconsin. A class A volunteer is anyone who has direct contact with athletes or is in a position of Authority, supervision, or trust of athletes. Supervisor, Kim Huber has the application or information to apply online to begin your memorable volunteer experience. Special Olympics Wisconsin care deeply about our athletes, families, and volunteers and realizes that need to take precautions to ensure their safety.
