Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community to be addressed.
Answer Good Shepherd Senior Apartments is a complex designed for independent senior citizens. We are looking for a student that enjoys working both outdoors and indoors to assist with facility maintenance and landscaping. You will be working with our Maintenance supervisor and have daily interaction with residents.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?
Answer To provide a warm and caring environment for our residents complete with a sense of community and companionship—to minister to our residents in mind, body, and spirit. 


What skills are required for this project?
Answer Use of basic hand tools and understanding of maintenance and landscaping needs. Must have a caring and compassionate attitude. Have the desire to learn property maintenance & working with the senior community.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?
Answer At the completion of this project the student will develop skills and understanding in many facets in property maintenance/management; effective communication skills and ability to perceive unspoken senior needs.


What are the availability requirements for the student?
Answer The Maintenance supervisor works the hours of 7a-2p Monday through Friday; the student would need to work any time between those hours.

Answer This position involves daily resident relations. We do have a dress code that we expect all employees to follow. The project can be extended for more hours.
