Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Looking for your first job can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! Let the YMCA bring the opportunities to YOU with our Teen Job Fair. For this event, as we host an array of local employers looking to hire teens for a wide variety of positions. Meet with people from across the workforce, hand out your resume, schedule an interview, or take part in a one-on-one professional development consultation at one of our resource booths. Participants are sure to leave with skills and knowledge to help them for years to come. The Teen Job Fair coordinator will: recruit employers and resources for booths, put together resource material, create and distribute promotional materials, contact schools and other community organizations to encourage student participation, create press materials, set up and be present for the fair, assist with tear down, create and send surveys to participants, and other related duties as assigned.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Organizational skills, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, reliability. Ability to easily communicate with members of the community.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The Teen Job Fair coordinator will: recruit employers and resources for booths, put together resource material, create and distribute promotional materials, contact schools and other community organizations to encourage student participation, create press materials, set up and be present for the fair, assist with teardown, create and send surveys to participants, and other related duties as assigned.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Must be present for the job fair (Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM at the L.E. Phillips YMCA Sports Center). Additional hours will be accrued leading up to the event, during times that work for the student’s schedule.
