Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer In conjunction with Global Service Day, the YMCA of the Chippewa Valley is proud to present its first ever Youth Voices Summit! This interactive event is designed to encourage young people from our region to become advocates and activists and to address issues important to them and our community at large. The day will be filled with keynote speakers, panels, breakout session, and engaging activities that will help elevate the voices of our youth. The student will: communicate with and arrange guest speakers and panelists, assist in planning and prepping the agenda and event, plan and execute activism activities for the students, help set up and take down the event, help with check in, help supervise during the event, and many other related duties as assigned.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To put Christian principles into practice through programs that help healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Core Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Organizational skills, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, reliability, and punctuality. Ability to relate to middle and high school age students.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The student will: communicate with and arrange guest speakers and panelists, assist in planning and prepping the agenda and event, plan and execute activism activities for the students, help set up and take down the event, help with check in, help supervise during the event, and many other related duties as assigned.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Must be available for Youth Voices Summit event on Saturday, April 18th. Additional hours will be accrued during the two weeks leading up to the program, during times that work for the student’s schedule.
