Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer This projects looks for students to support the Chinese program in multiple ways, including tutoring students' homework and providing feedback on students' assignments. The community is learners in the Chinese language classes.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission to promote langauge and cultural understanding.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Students need to have (1) strong communicative skills in both Chinese and English; (2) skills to engage conversations; (3) skills to analyze grammar mistakes in Chinese language use; (4) skills to provide constructive feedback.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The objectives are for the student to utilize their skills and knowledge learned in school, and for the student to develop communicative skills and meta-linguistic analytic skills.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Students need to be available one hour each week to provide tutoring on site.


Additional information (not required).

Answer Students will need to (1) submit 8-10 video analysis forms each week by Sunday night 11:59pm. (2) Write a 3-4 page reflection paper at the end of the project to address what they have done, what they have contributed, what they have learned and the impact for their future.
