Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Youth are struggling more than ever with their mental health due to COVID-19. All it takes is a listening ear to help a youth in need. We are looking for caring adults (must be 19 or older) that are interested in mentoring one-to-one or in a group setting for a youth facing adversity in the Chippewa Valley.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Tandem empowers youth to pursue their potential by receiving Christ’s love through Mentorship and guidance.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer It's easier than you think! All we ask is that you have good listening and communication skills with a compassionate and dedicated heart.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer You'll be developing awareness and gaining a deeper understanding of the youth in our community facing adversity. Some of the adversities that the youth are facing include having a lower socioeconomic status, parents incarcerated, alcohol and drug abuse, and peer pressure. You'll be able to have an active personal role in civic engagement through being a mentor for one of these youths facing adversity. The purpose of this mentorship is to help the teen you are paired with see there is hope, which we believe comes from having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Tandem is a community-based mentoring program which means you can meet your youth anywhere within the Chippewa Valley on a schedule that you two determine. It only takes 1 hour a week to make a difference in a youth's life. There is a 10 month commitment, but our hope is that you will build a lasting, trusting relationship with your mentee.
