Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer We have two students (ages 5 & 10) who speak mostly Spanish enrolled in our summer Sports Camp. We don't have anyone on staff who speaks Spanish so we are seeking Spanish-speaking volunteers to participate in activities with these boys and provide interpretation. In addition to learning different sports, our campers will engage in daily learning activities to help prevent summer learning loss.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Advanced Spanish

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To provide our Spanish-speaking students with a fun and educational summer at Sports Camp.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer The student must be able to get to the YMCA Sports Center on Craig Road. They will be required to pass a background check and comply with all YMCA child protection protocols and procedures. The camp runs Monday-Friday and translation help is needed between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM on the three days per week the boys will be in attendance (exact dates will be known by the Wednesday of the previous week).
