Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Looking for a skilled lighting design student to assist in the production of live events for the Miss Universe Organization. Our full-time staff is looking for a talented individual to come on board as a volunteer to help set up the production, run lights during the show, and tear down following each event.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The MISS USA and MISS TEEN USA Pageants use their global grassroots reach to empower women to be self-confident and strive to be their personal best. Our pageant believes that every woman should be "Confidently Beautiful." Our pageants provide a platform for these women through dedicated partnerships with charities, sponsors, and brands around the world. During their reign, our titleholders are given the tools to personally and professionally enrich others by providing humanitarian efforts to affect positive change, all while developing their personal career goals.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Whoever comes on board must have general lighting equipment knowledge, problem solving skills, the ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment, and perform manual labor tasks such as moving production equipment, operating spotlights, etc.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The student who comes on board will learn a multitude of skills from our highly trained lighting designer such as, how to operate different lighting boards, set up lighting and production equipment in unique/untraditional venues, and how to work cooperatively in a touring environment. The student is also involved directly with our mission as an organization to empower young women to be their best selves through community involvement, charitable actions, and career development.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Looking for a student willing to travel the Midwest in our production van on 6/19-6/20, 7/29-8/1, and 8/13-8/15.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Student has the opportunity to connect with our production teams from across the Midwest, as well as our full-time productions staff, with the prospect of joining our full-time staff upon completion of hours.
