Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer When becoming a mentor you have the opportunity to assist youth in further developing his or her daily life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, and academic excellence. Mentors have the unique opportunity to encourage, provide guidance and support to teens. Being a mentor helps develop leadership skills, communication skills, active listening skills, patience, understanding, compassion, and empathy. Becoming a mentor can be a great learning experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Our missions is to end hopelessness.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Great interpersonal skills, communication skills, active listening skills, and a positive attitude.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The objective for the student is to invest in, encourage, inspire and provide opportunities for their mentee to try new things. This helps the mentee gain new experiences and build confidence while teaching them to trust their skills and knowledge. It may also help the mentee identify areas where there is room for improvement. A mentor-mentee pair should define goals at the beginning of their relationship. These goals are going to be more mentee-specific and revolve around what the participants expect to give and receive from the mentorship.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer The schedule for a mentor-mentee pair is unique to that mentoring relationship. The mentor and mentee will decide on a day and time of the week they will meet based on what works for both their schedules. These meet-ups are generally 1.5 to 2 hours long. We ask for at least a year commitment to this position.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Student will need to go through an in-home mentor interview, mentor orientation, complete a background check, submit a valid drivers license photo and complete monthly training.
