Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer This non-profit association shall be known as the Chippewa Valley Chinese Friendship and Scholarship Association which shall be abbreviated as CFSA (pronounced caf-sa). The aims of the association shall be: • To facilitate communication, friendship and fellowship among association members. • To assist new members in our community during their settle-in periods in this region of Wisconsin. • To promote the understanding and appreciation of Chinese history and culture to people in this region of Wisconsin.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission of the association is to engender good will and understanding among people of diverse ethnic origin by facilitating social interaction among association members and to promote the appreciation of Chinese cultural heritage in the local community.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Proficiency in operation in Microsoft Word and Excel and emails. Well knowledge of updating FB page. • Attention to detail and interpersonal relationships with board members and Association members. • Must be able to relate to all different types of people from different cultures and backgrounds.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer • To develop the skills of cooperation and communication: they give opportunity for students to interact with people from various social and cultural background. • To acquire Across-cultural Competence: students learn and obtain the across-cultural competence through working for cultural activities. • To practice Equity, Diversity, and Inclusiveness. Students will develop skills and knowledge when working in this international organization and can practice EDI strategies.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer 15 hours for the academic school year. The working schedule will be flexible. Most of the job can be done virtually.
