Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer A library an office assistant is needed to help with the Eau Claire School District and UWEC Reading Partners Program. This project will include organizing materials in the Student Resource Room located in Centennial Hall 3208. The volunteer could also help create various activities for the Reading Partners to use and help will the planning and coordination of Reading Partners events.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The mission of Reading Partners is to share the joys of reading with children to improve literacy skills and encourage lifelong readers.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer The library/office assistant will need to be organization, have proficient computer skills, excellent written communication, dependable, and creative.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The objectives for the college student involved are to meet the Service Learning requirements of UWEC while gaining administration and marking experience. The volunteer will build his/her/resume by creating professional quality materials to be shared with Eau Claire school district employees, Reading Partner parents, UWEC students, the Eau Claire community.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer The schedule for this project is flexible. It is required to regularly meet with the Reading Partners Coordinator to discuss projects and progress. The position can be 1-2 hours a week and has the possibility to continue into the following academic school year.
