Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Pepin County has water quality data that shows trends in nitrate contamination in the groundwater. Student will research the well construction reports of these sites to determine if their are any well construction factors that are potentially correlated with contaminated groundwater before county staff investigate other factors. Additional other miscellaneous data management projects may be required by county staff.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Organizational and data management. Use of GIS and excel spreadsheets. Python skills strongly desired.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Learn to work in a government setting. Familiarize with water quality data, DNR resources, and government operations. Utilize online data sources that would potentially be useful in future career.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Ability to work remotely or with minimal supervision during weekdays based on instructions given to student.
