Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community to be addressed.
Answer When withdrawn ECASD school library books and donated materials are sent to the Friends group, UWEC students sort the media, check for market value, and post the items for sale on one of the Friends’ Amazon bookstores.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?
Answer In its efforts to support literacy in the community, the Eau Claire School Library Friends group offers grants to school libraries for equipment and services, supports author visits, donates to local charities, supports purchases of new books for young children.


What skills are required for this project?
Answer Ability to meet with staff for training and then work independently; log hours using Google Forms; technical skills helpful (basic computer, iOS, Amazon Stores)


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?
Answer This Green initiative repurposes books and other media, teaches student volunteers valuable skills, and establishes funds to support school media programs across the Eau Claire Area School District.


What are the availability requirements for the student?
Answer The ECASD Central Office is open 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM on days when public schools are in session. Over the summer, the office is closed Fridays. Students arrange an initial training with one of our community volunteers and then set their own hours while the building is open.
