Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer 3rd Saturday every month from 6:30-9:30 PM, the YMCA opens its doors to 6th - 8th grade students. They "Take over" the Y. The Y will provide a safe, positive place for these Youth to come to and have fun. Open Gym, games, activities, learning opportunities, etc. while being supervised.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Outgoing, energetic, youth engaging

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Learn to interact with a diverse group of youth. All backgrounds and socio-economic status will come to these events. Learn how to interact and lead youth and run youth activities.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Third Saturdays of the month (Oct - April) from 6-10 PM to allow orientation, set-up, and clean-up.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Volunteer can choose which months they'd like to work. The Y will conduct background checks on all volunteers. This is a great opportunity for a group, organization, team, dorm floor, etc. The YMCA is within walking distance of lower campus.
