Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer For this project, student volunteers will take notes during lectures and then scan (or take photos) and email them to the Barron County Campus accommodations coordinator (Sonya Swearingen). Students can also stop at the Solution Center to have notes scanned and emailed. To maintain confidentiality, note takers will not know the name of the student with accommodations unless that student chooses to identify themself.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office facilitates accommodations and services to students with disabilities that ensure equal access to university programs, services, and activities. UWEC-Barron County is committed to providing all students with accessible educational opportunities. UWECBC follows UW System Policy, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). 3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer *Coherent and thorough note taking skills *Legible handwriting (or typed notes)

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Paying close attention to take careful and detailed notes during lectures will enhance the student's comprehension of the course content. Also, volunteering that service to another student will help the note taker understand and appreciate that everyone learns differently. While completing this project, the note takers are providing a service to their classmate and university and therefore helping their general campus community.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Availability depends on the meeting schedule for the course for which the student with accommodations needs a note taker. The note taker is expected to attend all class lectures and scan (or photograph) and email notes after each class meeting (within one business day).

6.
