Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Ski and Snowshoe Room Attendants will help fit visitors with the right size rental equipment to use at Beaver Creek Reserve. Attendants will monitor the equipment room, help visitors find the snowshoeing or cross-country skiing equipment that best fit them, assist with filling out rental forms, and provide trail information before they start their adventure!

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Connecting people with nature.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Some background in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is preferred, but not required.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Improving customer service skills and knowledge of outdoor winter recreation.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Shifts are Friday-Sunday. Students can sign up for shifts that fit their availability, including half days (morning: 9:00am-12:30pm, afternoon: 12:30pm-4:00pm), or full days (9:00am-4:00pm). Students will be in charge of signing up for their own shifts and being accountable for tracking their hours needed to complete the service learning requirement.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer A short 30 min-1 hour training will be provided before the first shift. This project starts after we have enough snow to open rentals and ends once the winter season is over.
