Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Building Bridges is an afterschool program for youth in the Eau Claire and Dunn County areas. We focus on offering lessons, activities, and mentors to help youth build connections with their safety, belonging, and growth in mind. Mentors will be paired up and will lead a small group of students.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Building Bridges' mission is to provide a safe space, sense of belonging, and environment for growth creating opportunities and experiences to help empower and connect our youth.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Students should be comfortable leading group discussions and planning activities outside of the monthly gatherings.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Students will help shape our youth by sharing their experiences and wisdom and caring for them. Mentors will grow as a leader as they help serve the youth.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Building Bridges meets every Wednesday from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm, but on the last Wednesday of every month Mentors will join in and help lead the group. In each month Mentors will also plan for a small group hangout/volunteer opportunity for a minimum of 1 hour; this will allow for students to be flexible in their scheduling.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Our afterschool youth program serves Hmong youth in the area, but we want to open our program to anyone and everyone who is looking for a place to feel safe, feel like they belong, and grow.
