Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Trinity Equestrian Center is looking for volunteers to assist with care of our therapy herd of horses through completing weekly barn chores. Keeping our horses in the best of health keeps them prepared to provide the best services to our clients. Barn chores includes but is not limited to, cleaning stalls, feeding hay, watering, and sweeping.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Trinity Equestrian Center was founded with purpose to provide hope and healing.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Previous horse experience is not required. Volunteers must be able to walk for 60 minutes straight and lift up to 50lbs. Volunteers must be able to follow directions, be flexible with changes of plans, be patient, kind, and caring with all who they work with. Volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation/training prior to participating. Volunteers must be able to work efficiently, thoroughly, and mostly independently after training.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Students who volunteer at Trinity Equestrian Center will gain an understanding of how to best care for horses and learn how to best manage therapy horses, specifically, so they are able to serve clients without experiencing burn out.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Student's must commit to 2 hours of chores for one day of the week for 15 weeks with a brief 1 hour training prior to starting. Volunteers are needed from 7:30am - 9:30am.
