Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer UWEC students will help support undergraduate student artists coming to UWEC to create murals on our campus during 2023 NCUR. Student liaisons will help prepare the mural spaces, communicate with visiting student artists before the conference, be available to assist the student artists while they are here on campus, and help complete any work that the visiting student artist where not able to complete during their visit to campus.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The UWEC Department of Art & Design offers various degrees helping students enter the future economy, while fostering students' aesthetic intuition and skills on the path for them to meet their career and artistic goals. During spring 2023 UWEC will be hosting the National Conference on Undergraduate Research which promotes undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity. NCUR is unique because it welcomes students from all institutions of higher learning and from all disciplines.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Effective communication skills, teamwork, collaboration, and problem solving. Basic studio drawing and painting skills: color mixing, paint handling, proportion, compositional design, and material cleaning/storage.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer -Organize tools and materials for the creation of public murals. -Monitor the creation of murals being painted by student artists and solve issues as they arrive. -Support visiting student artists during their visit to campus. -Paint mural designs as needed.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Students must meet with the supervisor periodically between 2/6 and 5/11 for planning purposes. Students need to be available during the NCUR conference dates (including pre-conference) 5/13- 5/15 and will need to meet periodically after the conference for organization and clean up.

Additional information (not required).

Answer I would like to select the students who apply. The students need to be reliable, have good teamwork skills, and have the appropriate technical painting skills.
