Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Design and creation of outdoor library boxes for 'Amplified Author's' Project to distribute books on UWEC campus.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The Equity in Student Matters Commission will provide rotating books in the small outdoor libraries depending on heritage month or recognition days. The mission of this commission is for students to learn more about cultural diversity on our campus and in the greater community.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer The Equity in Student Matters Commission will utilize Art student skills for designing and building these small libraries in the Art & Design Department. Students need skills in design, and woodworking.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Outdoor community libraries are a tangible, easy, and accessible way for students to learn more about the cultural diversity on our campus and in the greater community.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Required student skills: Design, and woodworking. Students must commit a minimum of 15 hours of designing and woodworking to this project to receive Service Learning Credit.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Working with Jyl Kelley from the Department of Art and Design, and Rosa Gómez from the Equity in Student Matters Commission with Student Senate to create three small outdoor community libraries for UWEC. When finished the small libraries will be placed throughout campus and stocked with literature that will represent different cultures and specific cultural celebrations.
