Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Amazing Eau Claire Clean-Up (4/20/2024) is a community event which attracts 1,500+ volunteers in one day to beautify Eau Claire. Each year, the City of Eau Claire is rewarded by the passionate services of so many people who serviced many of our parks, trails, riverbanks, shorelines, flowerbeds, and streets. Their work has proven to enhance the environment and beautification initiatives of the Eau Claire Parks, Recreation & Forestry. Eau Claire is rich in history, parks amenities, and offers wonderful trail systems. We have 45 miles of trails 386.5 acres of maintained parklands and over 1,100 acres of parklands. Our downtown and business districts have grown tremendously and provide a positive experience for visitors and citizens alike.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Keeping our city, riverways, trails, and parks clean through an event such as The Amazing Eau Claire Clean-Up and our Adopt-A-Park/Trail programs provides high level quality of life for our community. It also helps the economy by attracting tourists and enhances the daily lives of our community members.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer The week prior to the event volunteers will assist with handling preparations for the event via inventory, packaging, and distribution of shirts, trash bags, gloves, donations, and safety equipment, etc. On the day of the event, volunteers will assist with the clean-up activities at specifically assigned areas of the city.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The vast amount of volunteer services offered through the Amazing Eau Claire Clean-up and the Adopt-A-Park/Trail programs displays the pride our community members have for their City. These events are not only great for community bonding and getting to know fellow residents and businesses, but they have a massive impact on environmental health and the well-being of local ecosystems. Getting our community involved in The Amazing Eau Claire Clean-Up creates an awareness of the importance of recycling and upkeep of our city. It also creates a unified front that ensures common areas are safe and clean, particularly our parks where children and families gather. These programs also provide continued protection of the wildlife who depend on clean parks and waterways by raising awareness of plastic pollution within our community. Litter can impact not only the image of an area, but it is dangerous to our natural wildlife.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Hours could vary based on availability. Distribution of materials which volunteers will assist with is 12-6pm; MTWThF; April 8-11 and/or April 15-18. The event will be held Saturday, April 20, 9-12noon.

6.
