Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Eau Claire Parks, Recreation & Forestry hosts soccer, t-ball, and baseball programs during the summer months for youth ages 5-18 years. Volunteer coaches work with small groups of youth teaching the basic skills of the game and introduce league play. Games are in the late afternoons and evenings M-Th 2x per week. There are no additional practices or commitments outside of the league schedules.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Eau Claire Parks, Recreation, & Forestry's mission is to provide exceptional park, recreation, and forestry services that will enrich our citizens and visitors.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Volunteers need experience playing either soccer, t-ball, or baseball and have some experience working with youth.


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Coaching youth sports provides volunteers with the enjoyment and satisfaction of making valuable impacts on the lives of youth in our community. Basic life and leadership skills are expressed through team play.


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Soccer games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. T-ball is played on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Baseball is played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The program runs from June 10-July 26.
