Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Market Match Program allows FoodShare participants to use their SNAP cards to purchase healthy, local foods from the EC Downtown Farmers Market. They can purchase $1 tokens by swiping their SNAP cards and we will match that amount 1:1 up to $10. per week.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer We want to assist people in our community facing food insecurity by offering them a way to stretch their food dollar while purchasing healthy food from local farmers and small businesses.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer You need to be friendly and communitive as you'll have interaction with many community members. Student will be trained to run a POS card swiping machine, keeping written records of sales/swipes while selling tokens and other small tasks connected with the Market Match Program.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer This may introduce students to a social issue that they may not be familiar with, food insecurity.
