Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Students will assist with the management and running of theatre productions and events in the Fine Arts building. Productions and events will be produced by both the college and other community organizations.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer UW Eau Claire's mission statement: We foster in one another creativity, critical insight, empathy, and intellectual courage, the hallmarks of a transformative liberal education and the foundation for active citizenship and lifelong inquiry.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Some theatre experience would be great but is unnecessary. A willingness to learn new things, an interest in the theatre, and a desire to help create opportunities for the arts on our campus are required. It would also be preferable if students are able to lift and move materials and do not have a fear of heights (these are not, however, requirements).

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The main objective of this project is to provide theatrical/performance opportunities to the campus and community. The benefits to any student that participates would be for them to obtain event management experience, some marketing experience, and gain skills working with technical equipment and working with people.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Ideally, students would work 2 hours a week around their class schedules, although, 1 hour per week would also be fine.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer If you are interested, please contact Jennifer Duvall (campus librarian): duvallja@uwec.edu It's going to be fun!
