Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Eau Claire Parks & Recreation holds a host of special events and programs throughout the year which require a vast amount of equipment distributions, transitions, and preparations. Volunteers are sought to support the park crew and recreation staff with fall clean-up, inventory audits, and special event set-up to prepare for our upcoming events/programs. Our upcoming community event is the City of Eau Claire Winter Parade --- volunteers are sought to assist with preparation and delivery of this event, viewed by 10,000 community members annually.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Eau Claire Parks, Recreation, & Forestry's mission is to provide exceptional park, recreation, and forestry services that will enrich our citizens and visitors. The goal of this proposal is to assist our department with post- and pre-program/event tasks.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Minimal - Volunteers will assist with handling preparations for the event via inventory, packaging, and distribution of materials. On the day of the event, volunteers will assist with the parade activities at specifically assigned areas of the parade route.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Students will learn the back-door plans that are needed to prepare for a city-wide activity, the post-program tasks that are necessary to help the recreation division plan for future programs, and various customer service tasks throughout the preparation of the parade event.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer The hours leading up to the parade would be flexible, based on the student's schedule. The Winter parade is scheduled for Friday, December 1 in the evening, which is the only date requirement for the project.
