Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Tutors provide help to students in chemistry courses by discussing homework problems and study advice for courses that the tutor has previously taken. The tutoring program was so successful in the first few weeks this semester that we needed to add additional tutors and hours. This means that tutors will be able to get 30 total Service Learning hours (15 + 15) this semester.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To provide peer tutoring for chemistry courses.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer You must have previously taken any course that you list as a tutor and be willing to patiently answer questions and help student better understand chemistry.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Tutors will help students better understand chemistry concepts and improve their study skills. Tutors will gain a deeper understanding of chemistry through the need to explain concepts to someone else.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer You must attend all tutoring sessions you signed up for and log your hours. If you encounter exceptional circumstances that require you to miss a session, contact the Tutoring Coordinator.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer The project is only open to students who applied to be a Chemistry Tutor, were accepted, and were approved for additional hours.
