Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer By joining our team as an Activities Class Team Leader for “Cycle for Multiple Sclerosis (MS)" you would be meeting a need of overseeing physical activity of individuals with MS weekly. This is a community collaboration supporting a new nonprofit MS-Take Charge, Inc providing a safe place for community engagement. This physical therapy experience will become a reference for you in the future.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer MS-Take Charge is a nonprofit organization focusing on providing movement therapy and wellness for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. Our community needs a safe place for people diagnosed with MS to participate in physical activity and gain support.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Looking for someone interested in collaborating with us while we form a health and wellness community engagement nonprofit “MS-Take Charge” for individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis. 1. Time management 2. Exceptional communication skills 3. Desires a meaningful hands/on Service-Learning Experience utilizing degree studies and skillset to serve 30 hours of service and give back to the Eau Claire Community.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Play a vital role in supporting our organization’s development operations by providing health-related fitness instruction. Promoting community engagement fostering and creating a sense of solidarity among participants diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Positively impact the Eau Claire Community through nonprofit development of MS-Take Charge while building your resume.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Flexible schedule working with Service-Learning Student(s) for development of class. Will require implementation of 8-10 weekly sessions to individuals with MS. A second class time may be added if there is a need and schedules allow.

Answer Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disorder usually manifesting itself in early 20’s. Almost one million people in the United States have MS, making it one of the most common causes of neurological disability among young adults (20’s-40’s) in North America. The prevalence of MS in Wisconsin is medium to high and there is an estimated 20,000 people in Wisconsin impacted by Multiple Sclerosis.
