Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer This project is meant to provide local high school juniors with resources to write a successful college essay. Any student assisting with the workshop to earn service-learning will conduct three in-person sessions on what makes a successful college essay. High school students will write their essay and receive one-on-one personalized feedback from peer reviewers.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Recruiting students to the University and providing them with tools and resources to transition into college.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Attention to detail, comfortable speaking in front of groups of people, ability to provide constructive feedback, strong written and oral skills, and time management.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The main goal is to provide local high school students with a college essay and information about the college application process. This project will allow our students to serve in a mentorship role and aid local community members.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Available for three in-person sessions (dates TBD), three additional hours of availability during the week to review essays, and three hours of training prior to meeting with students. Additionally, they will need to be available for a one hour wrap up session once the project is complete.
